Range & Charging
Kia EV5 offers up to 530 km range according to WLTP. But how far does it really go – and what happens in winter? Here is everything you need to know.
WLTP Range
Kia EV5 comes in three versions with different battery sizes and ranges.
| Version | Battery | Motor | WLTP Range | Real-world range* |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air (FWD) | 58 kWh | 150 kW (204 hk) | 400 km | ~320–360 km |
| Earth (FWD) | 88 kWh | 168 kW (229 hk) | 530 km | ~420–480 km |
| GT-Line (AWD) | 88 kWh | 230 kW (313 hk) | 480 km | ~380–430 km |
* Real-world range in mixed driving, 20°C. Varies depending on driving style, temperature and speed.
Winter Range
In cold climates, range decreases for all electric vehicles. Kia EV5 is equipped with a heat pump that improves energy efficiency in the cold.
At -10°C to -15°C – typical Swedish winter conditions – the Kia EV5 typically loses 25–30% of its WLTP range. That means:
The distance is 470 km. With the EV5 Earth in winter (~370 km range) you need one fast charging stop of about 15–20 minutes. With summer range you can cover the distance on a single charge.
Charge to 80% before you leave. Fast charging (10–80%) takes 27 minutes with 350 kW DC. Choose IONITY or Recharge for best reliability.
Comparison
| Model | WLTP Range | Battery | DC Charging | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kia EV5 Earth | 530 km | 88 kWh | 350 kW | 553 900 kr |
| Tesla Model Y LR | 533 km | 75 kWh | 250 kW | 479 990 kr |
| Skoda Enyaq 85 | 534 km | 82 kWh | 175 kW | 449 900 kr |
| Hyundai Ioniq 5 | 507 km | 77,4 kWh | 220 kW | 549 900 kr |
Kia EV5 Earth combines the class-leading DC charging power (350 kW) with competitive WLTP range. This means shorter charging stops on long trips.
Charging Time
Up to 350 kW via CCS2 connector. Charging from 10–80% takes 27 minutes (Earth, 88 kWh). 4.5 minutes of charging adds 100 km of extra range. EV5 uses 400V architecture.
11 kW three-phase with wallbox. Full charge from 0–100% takes approximately 9 hours (Earth). Perfect for overnight charging – always wake up with full range.
Kia EV5 has V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) with 3,6 kW output. Charge other devices or power electric tools directly from the car. Expect approximately 5% range per hour of V2L use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Kia EV5 Earth has a WLTP range of 530 km. The Air version reaches 400 km and GT-Line AWD 480 km. In real-world driving you can expect 420–480 km with the Earth at 20°C.
In Swedish winter conditions (-10°C to -15°C) the range decreases by 25–30%. EV5 Earth then gives approximately 370–400 km. The standard heat pump helps minimize the loss compared to cars without a heat pump.
Kia EV5 charges at up to 350 kW DC (CCS2). From 10 to 80% it takes 27 minutes. With an 11 kW AC wallbox a full charge takes approximately 9 hours. 4.5 minutes of fast charging adds 100 km of extra range.
Kia EV5 Earth RWD with the 88 kWh battery and front-wheel drive has the longest range at 530 km WLTP. GT-Line AWD has 480 km and Air 400 km.
